Cold Air Intake

Anyone got pictures in their gallery of a cold air intake installation?

i've been thinking about doing this for a while now, but haven't even started. was thinking how to mount an elbow on the carb then run the k&n kit off that.
good luck finding something.

You can use an elbow from a Dodge 360 EFI, run it to an airbox of your choice, and cut a hole next to the radiator for the hose.

So the idea is to run a 4" pipe down between the wheel well and the alternator and through a hole next to the radiator into the space behind the grill - right?

Half off subject: Years ago on the 69 F250 I cut two 2" holes into the cowl just below the hood frame in the area of the cowl where there are no louvers. Added pipe stubs to flange rings with 30 degree angle cuts to help keep water out of the intake air, two rubber hoses and a 90 for both air intakes to the air cleaner. This worked great as the high pressure air is created at the windshield base, jetted one up primary and two secondary.
Cold damp mornings allowed for carb ice besides small tree seeds from the birch tree in the air cleaner can.
Check into the late 80's Mustang 4 cylinder intakes as they have 45 and 90 degree rubber duct pieces in 3" and cheap at the wreckers if you go for front ram air. I would add a low spot for water to drain as well a way of adding carb heat for those cold mornings that can be switched off when warm, vacuum thermo valve.

plumber's nightmare

If you want to spend a few more bucks and not have the top of your motor look like a drunken plumber played with it, buy a kit and do it the easy way. The company I bought mine from also has lots of pieces and parts for doing your own custom setup. Pix in my gallery.

baitmaster, that looks perfect. Do you have pics of the actual intakes?

Also, how tough was it to fit that fan to your radiator -did you have to radius for the radiator hoses?

Back in 72 with the first system as well in 84 they didn't have all this high dollar equipment like these days, was and still am for function not show.
Remember the phrase "If it don't go chrome it"? $8 vs $125 plus.

I've got one too. Well worth the money in terms of looks and installation time.

dryer vents

The install of the two 4" hoses from grill to air cleaner assembly consists of no more than 2 4" holes cut thru just inside of the headlights. I used a hole saw to get a nice round hole. The fittings I bought with the kit look just like the 4" dryer hose vents you can buy at Home Depot. Pop riveted them on and spray painted them black before clamping hoses to them. This company had many more styles of these depending on where you wanted the air to come from. (Underneath bumper, hood, cowling area, etc). They also sell hoses, air cleaner assemblies for just about any application you have, or will make something to your specs. As for the radiator/fan system, I tossed the heavy old 3 row brass and hung the alum one that about the same measurements as the fan assembly. Just had to do some minor bracket changes to the rad, and fan came with assortment of brackets to mount that. Also had to find a lower radiator hose from a slightly newer truck w/ pr steering to clear pr steer belt. (I've installed power steer on it). Sure works good, never gets hot, and nice fast warmup in the winter. Maybe saves a little fuel too, seems like truck is a little peppier without that big 'ol fan blade spinning all of the time. As far as the saying "chrome wont make it go any faster", this is true, but to each his own. Like my boss used to say, "It's my money, and I'll spend it anyway I want". Oh, yeah, I once saw a '69 Chev with two 4" PVC elbows sticking out of the hood for air. Classy.

Back in the 60's early 70's we used ingenuity and made our own speed equipment as there weren't after market items like these days.
Now all it takes is open wallet and install, no thinking required. Just like the snide comments my dad's friend got years ago on his ideas, some worked some failed and they laughed when he failed but he was always thinking, he was Mr. Edelbrock Sr.
Back in 71 I ran two injector nozzles and a medical bottle with oxygen injected into a velocity stack, got into the 11's. Wasn't a pretty installation but the results were pre NOs?

He who makes no mistakes does nothing or just buys.
