Omc 302

I have been given a good running but totaled 78 F-150, some one has installed what looks to be a 76 or 77 OMC 190 (302) boat engine in it with a 4 speed trans. The engine runs great, but does anyone out there know if there are any major differences or advantages with the marine engines over the regular car/truck versions??

Usually the marine engines got better cams than smogged up street motors, and the cams were usually installed straight up. During the 70's a lot of street motors got the cams installed 4 or more degrees retarded. I had a 400 in a truck once that had the 351C marine cam installed straight up. You just can't believe how good that 400 was with the marine cam in it. The 400 doesn't have a good rep, but with a Marine cam in it, it was a totally different storey. When Ford started making a higher output 302 again in the early 80's one of the first things they did was go to the 351 marine cam. The revolutionary 85 HO roller cam was probably developed from a 302/351 marine cam as a starting point.
