I was waiting on the 07 Superduty F350 Crew cab, Long bed, 4x4 new 6.4L twin turbo Diesel. But, saw this and for $2500 I grabbed it. Thinking with all the money I saved compared to the 07 F350, this thing could use 400hp.
Anyone have a guess of what a Engine/ w 4 speed tranny would cost. 375 to 400 hp?
Very nice looking truck. Ford Racing has 460 crate engines that claim 550hp and 545 ft lbs torque with a rear sump oil pan for $6700. Np435 transmissions can easily handle that power and are good for towing. Expect to pay $750 for that. That is the easy part. The things that really add up is the doodads like motor mounts carb air filter bell housing clutch clutch pedals and linkage... stuff like that. I wouldnt doubt you will drop 12grand going this direction if you dont have any parts sitting on the shelf. Still with a total of $14500 invested its about 1/3 the cost of the new PSD Superduty not a bad deal.
Check out one of the sponsors here, TMEYERINC. I just bought the 400 off of him and the HP is exactly what you are asking for.
I am well pleased with the power and torque! A big plus is working with Tim and the great work put in this engine! Any specific question about the 400, you may pm me.
Great looking truck! Have to admit, it would look better in my driveway!
That's a very good looking pickup. The current motor/trans makes a difference when swapping in a 460/4spd. So what does it have now? The price depends on how carried away you want to get - if you want it all new, all chrome, all billet or just a close to factory 460... In '78-79, some of the F150 2wds came from the factory with 460s - so the easiest/cheapest would be to find a parts truck to get mounts, brackets, manifolds, linkages, ect.
Thanks guys, Yea, I do not want to go insane on the truck, but to bring an old truck back and give it some respect on the street is pretty cool.
It has the 351M motor right now, not sure of the tranny, 4speed, pretty sure it is origianl.
The thing that impressed me the most is the paint and int. I buffed out the paint with a light compound and wow. This paint has to be leaded or something. For its age it looks great.
Here is a couple of more pics. You can almost see your reflection in the paint.
Where should I go to get a dual Exhaust? First thing is a better sound. It kinda sounds like a school bus now.
Also, think I should level the front end. There is about a 2'' or 3'' inch lift block on the back but only spring helpers on the front. Any thought? It is only 2wd but, I think leveling it would look better.
