Well, This truck is my third F-150. The first was an 84 it had a 300 and 4 speed T-18. Sold it after it hit the 400,000 mark. I then bought an 02, it had the 4.2 and the 5 speed manual. It was a longbed regular cab 4x2. Sadly it is going to auction, as a woman hit me from behind in an 03 Explorer. She was going between 20 and 30. Buckled the frame and bed on mine. Insurance gave me 10k for it, which was 2k more thay I piad for it. So, I splurged last night and bought an 06 4.2 5 speed 4x2 shortbed. It now has 22 miles. I figured it'd be a nice oppertunity to get a BRAND NEW truck. This is the first new one. Anyways, it's kinda cool how my sceen name is still fitting.
hey f15ter! how do you like the 4.2/5spd? i also had a 2002 4.2/5spd and sold it a while back, i thought it was a little weak for the truck. so i am curious if the 2005 feels slugish or better than the old ones. any help will be great, thanks. p.s. hope you like the truck!!
I have a 4.2 5 speed also with the 126in wheelbase and 2wd. It feels prety powerful especialy for a V6, but the 3.55 gears just are not the best for me, and the well built truck (heavy). Plus I have oversized tires and wheels. The gears hurt the throtle response and the low end, but it does do good on the freeway when you don't have to go into OD until 80. Most of my driving isn't near that. I have a lot of city driving to. I would realy like to get some 3.73's or some 3.90's. Then I can burn some rubber and V8's

i traded in my 2005 s-cab stx about 4 months ago. i got to where i did not like it any more, to long a 6.5ft bed(yuck!!). i wish i would have known about the 5.5 ft bed(great!!) i first wanted the reg cab but the old lady talked me into the s-cab(wont happen again) regcab or screw cab is the only ones i'll get next time. my scab had the 4.6(slug) but i bet in a regcab it is great! i really want a truck again but with 10mpg's i am haveing a had time going back to that. i dont expect alot of mpg's but if i could get 14-16 in the city i'd be happy. thanks for your info!!!

It feels about the same. Maybe a bit better on the bottom end though. I thought the 4.2 felt pretty good in the midrange power on the old one. I used to haul cars with it and had no problems with power. I'll admit though, it's not the fastest thing out there. That's why I have one of those 'weird rotary motor' cars. The other reason for the six was decent milage.
Well, I looked at one they had for only a minute or two. It was an 04 lwb V6 auto that was smoked in (a lot) had 66k on it already and was scratched to hell. They wanted WAY too much for it (10,5) was the lowest I could get them to go. Then I looked at a new one and drove it. I was bitten by that NEW CAR scent bug.
yeah, i hear that! when i traded in my 05 scab i did not think i would miss it! i dont really to big, but i do miss haveing a truck. i am curious, does anyone know if the 4.2/auto drive as well as the 5spd??
