Last year, I was going to install a Pioneer AVIC in my F250. I went to a good auto stereo dealer. He said that in earlier units of the Avic he was able to disable/unlock the systems via the parking brake (I didn't get details). BUT, he said that the new Pioneer units cannot be unlocked this way. He thought that there MAY be a software hack out there, but he didn't know it.

So instead of a Pioneer AVIC, I bought a Garmin 660 and it has been excellent.

If the Ford OEM nav system is basically the latest Pioneer AVIC, then the parking brake workaround probaby won't work.

Has anyone gone online and looked for hacks on a Pioneer AVIC?

Bought a new 07 Limited yesterday and got the nav system, so I'm interested in this.

sorry for the three identical posts. The site was stuck and I guess I submitted three times somehow. Moderator - please remove the two others - thanks.

Nav Camera and the EL

Look what I found. Perhaps we can retrofit. The rearview mirror does not look as though it has the home link intergrated as seen in the 2008 acc cataloge.

Camera:

Accessory cat: Item # 9

hopefully. It looks as if no video to the pioneer system though.

Anyone know which version of AVIC we have in the 2007s? Found this:

This bypass will do three things:
1. Makes all nav functions available while driving (just like they should be)
2. Make video playback available while driving
3. No more parking brake warning box!!!

AVIC-N2 lockout bypass: Underneath the MAIN unit (not the hideaway) is a small silver sticker, peel this back. There are two contacts with the label "R197". Drop a bit of solder between these to connect them. Also, you must ground the Parking Brake wire.

AVIC-D1 lockout bypass: Find an extra Pioneer wire harness, and pull one of the wires out. Or, if you do not use the A.ANT lead, pull that out of the harness. In the AVIC-D1 harness, there is one open spot on the connector (next to the ground wire). Put the wire into the open spot on the connector, connect the other side to ground, then re-connect the plug to the AVIC-D1. Also, you must ground the Parking Brake wire (or connect to a toggle switch if you feel the need).

Thats it, all there is to it, and all the lockouts are bypassed. Easy, give it a try.

That won't work on a factory system. The hardware is Pioneer, but not the software. For more details on AVIC hacks, see AVIC411.com. All of the hacks associated with AVICs are taking advantage of the fact that they have a means to bypass from the factory as their units can also be installed in boats. The newer AVICs (N3 for example) actually have switches to disable the lockout.

So we're SOL? There was another thread in this venue that basically gave directions of popping a switch in the speed wire into the nav to get access to at least the NAV functions while driving. It was for a 2006 though.
