Question.. I thought I read in the Ford literature that when the vehicle is under way, some of the features of the nav system were locked out for safety reasons. When my wife and I are in her car (with a nav system), I may be driving while she is using the nav system to search for a restaurant in the next town were coming to. I would like to know from the 07 owners if this type of use is available.

Thanks for your help.
The new system is far superior to the one i had in my 06 expy. to answer your question you can look for quick POI's while moving. You can setup your quick POI menu to display what you want ie.. resturaunts, banks, ect. also the voice activation part can be used while moving. when i asked for local returaunts it asked me mexican, english, italian, ect, ect..... it was pretty awesome. hope this helps.
The majority of nav systems these days have the safety lock out feature to stop you entering addresses while moving. They do still allow look up of POI's as well as accessing favorite or already stored locations.
You can bypass most nav units safety by grounding against the brake cable but that is upo to you whether you want to bypass the safety system

Would you please be a little more specific in this procedure.
Randy, all depends on the NAV system you have in the Pioneer AVIC Z1 for example is very easy to disable. If you are talking about the factory standard as it is built by Pioneer the process should be the same. Let me know which system and I will PM you instructions

There are both Pros and Cons for the factory system. I love that its integrated with the stereo system and decreases the music volume to give directions. Its also not as likely to be stolen since its a whole in dash set up. I also have a Garmin Nuvi 360 portable GPS. It is much simplier to use and seems to work alot better than the factory system in my 07 Expedition. Garmin($500) vs Ford System($1500) It just depends on whats more important to you.

The whole point is most of Aftermarket Nav Sytems have Stereo System integrated with NAvigation also and had it for I would say past 4 years or so at least Pioneer did. So Factory Setup still has a lot of catching up to do ... also for instance new Pioneer Avic-Z1 looks just like Factory setup
I read in an earlier post that pioneer actually make the system that ford uses. That would explain why they look similar. I guess what you have to weigh for yourself is the vast cost difference between factory system vs self contained systems like Garmin.

The funny part is that when I was at Ford Dealership (Westfield Ford Countryside, IL.) they had on display Avic-Z1 available for install as Aftermarket Nav thru Ford Dealer. They wanted for it $2900 I ask the Service manager HOW MUCH .....??? and I just smiled. I showed him my Avic-N3 with two extra 7" screens in the headrest and I told him all this with installation was $1800.
Its just so funny how DEALERS RIP people of. The place that I go for all my Installs its called MOBILE CONCEPTS (Orland Park, IL). For Alarm with Remote Starter(PRESTIGE) with installation they ususally charge aprox. $300. Same Alarm with Remote starter at Dealer is aprox. $799 with Installation. To make it story short ... all dealers around Orland PArk area like: BMW, Ford, Acura etc. once they get one naive customer to PAY $799 for BASIC Alarm and Remote Starter they set up appointment with customer and after customer leaves the car they take it over to MOBILE CONCEPTS and get the installation done for Aprox.$300-$350 which leaves them with profit of another $300-400. That's how smart they are ... and the funny think is that they will tell you if you won't get installed by us we won't warranty it. GOD DAM they don't do freakin install it at first place.

I also have AVIC-S1 it is new portable Pioneer Navigation with 3.5" Touch Screen, Bluetooth and GPS ANTENNA build in so you don't have any wires accept Power Cord for Cigaret Lighter where Unit Plugs in or you can run it for aprox. 6 hours from Rechargable battery. It works just like any other HIGH END AVIC (N2, N3 , D2 or Z1) Maps are stored in 2GB of memory it has ... and future updated will be done thru SD MEMORY CARD you just plug card in and it will updated your AVIC-S1 to newest maps. So far I even stoped using my AVIC-N3 for Navigation I just use Avic-S1. The good thing about AVIC-S1 is that you can take it with you anywhere ... its little bit bigger then pack of cigarets. It also futures Day/Night Mode over 2 Milion POI, Zip code search and Maps of whole USA and CANADA

Could you PM me with instructions for the 2003 Lincoln Navigator factory system? I would greatly appreciate it.
-this disabling feature drive me crazy. For example, If I have a navigator (my wife) in my Navigator that wants to use the navigation system, that should be allowed. Would this be Nav to the third power (cubed)
I can do this with my Garmin NUVI 350 Navigation system
