What is RMS wattage of stock HU on '06 f250 (6 cd hu) ?
#2
Most head units (even thoes with internal amplifiers) can not have a voltage swing more than 12-14v. Into a 4ohm impeadance that is 18-24.5w per channel.
Stock headunits usually dont utilize more than a 10v swing which means 12.5w per channel. Remember, for there to be even the slightest difference in noticable output you would need at least 1/3 more power. Most aftermarket units utilize a 12v swing which means 18w. That is just enough to gain 1dB. However aftermarket units usually use much better componets and amp circutry so the signal at high levels is much more clean which sounds better and louder to our ears.
All in all, if you are looking for a substantial increase in loudness you will need new speakers AND and external amplifer capeable of 2-10 times more power along with an aftermarket head unit.
