I was looking in circuit city today and found some Bazooka 12" subs for under $50 and was wondering if they were worth my time. The number on them is Bazooka ELW12142. says 350 peak wattage, can't find rms, still looking.
ok, i did a little research, the subs have an rms of 150, no amp yet, i can't remember the other stats, gone back home with dial-up, ugh, and can't do a lot of research, going out today to take another look at them, but i don't know if thats what i'm going with
Peak ratings have no relation to RMS ratings. A speaker could be rated 1000 watts peak but only handle 50 RMS. Peak is a number pulled out of thin air by most speaker builders.
That said, if you are looking for sound quality, there are better out there. For just bass, they do pretty well. For a 1st system, they are not bad. Put them in an enclosure that matches their specs, and most people would be happy with them.
Ported Enclosure 2.0 cu ft
Port Length 15.71 in
Port Diameter 4 in
port Frequency (Fb) 31Hz
Ok, I was looking again today and i found something i think i'm going to like better. I am not looking for competition quality subs, I'm looking for some decent subs to add some more bass to my system. Right now i have a 45wx4 Pioneer HU, with 20 rms, 220w Pioneer 6x8's with 45 rms, and am looking at some pioneer subs that are 150 rms, 600 peak. not sure on the other specs other than them being 12", I have all the info for boxes, just seeing if these subs are even worth my time looking at. For 2 they are 100, for 1 it's 70. I am happy with the rest of my pioneer equipment, and since i'm not looking for anything high powered, these seem great. Another question, I am new with subs, this would be my first set, and i was wondering what kind of amp's I should be looking at. also, would it be safe or even worth hooking subs up before an amp and then putting an amp in later? I mean, i plan on getting an amp before hooking them up, just kinda something i've been wondering/thinking about while i was looking at subs.
Subs need a strong amp, your head unit will not push them very well. Any amp with output around the RMS ratings of the subs will be ok, a little higher or lower really doesnt matter.
I would pick the Pioneers over the Bazookas. I've had really good experiences with Pioneer.
Yeah, i'm not going with competition subs, as i said, i just want something to add a little more bass to my system. I think I will be going with the pioneers, I love my pioneer speakers and HU, so why not just top it all off with a sub. They seem to be what will fit my needs so i think they will be great. Thanks for ya'lls help
