One thing I discovered is that the higher wattage inverters usually need to be conencted directly to the battery. Makes sense when you figure the current draw is roughly Watts/Volts. So if you have even a modest inverter like my 400W model, you could be pulling about 30 Amps. Some lighter sockets are fuesed to only 5-10 amps or so. Mine says use lighter plug only for up to about 100W.

A cell phone pulls very little power. A laptop could pull a few hundred watts if the battery is low.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

I plan on running it straight to the battery. Just wanted to see if there was anything to watch out for when buying one of these machines.

I use a 140 watt inverter often. I drive a few vehicles, so I put it in my laptop case which I carry to work daily as an MP3 player.

I use it for cell, lappy, some other misc things here and there. I will end up getting a big one sometime, but for now the 140 is fine.

I used to use a 150 watt inverter for my laptop and inkjet printer, it worked well if the laptop battery was fairly well charged but when it needed to be charged and used at the same time it struggled and beeped. I replaced it with a 400 watt and it does every thing I need it to.
