I have a problem I need help solving. I have a 66' f-100, short bed, four wheel drive. I am turning it into a pre-runner. for all you non off-roaders its a truck you take out to pre-run the race course. I am having a problem with my drive train. The truck has a 352. which I am not sure If I am going to keep in there or put a 390 in it. doesnt matter either way. I am planning on taking the old Manual Tranny out and putting a C-6 under it. But my problem is the transfer case. of course it still has the original 4-wheel dirve/2-wheel drive case in it. (sorry I dont know what the name or number is of it) I dont think it will bolt up to the C-6. and I realy dont want to put a newer motor in it. So what can i do. is there another Transfer case that will work with the 352/390, C-6 converstion. I dont care if its a newer Transfer case. any help would be great, thanks.

I have a C6 that will bolt up to an FE. not a problem there. its the Tranny case thats giving me fits. the C6 is to long or somthing. cause the original Tranny case wont bolt up to it. I am just looking on what I can do about that. mabay a diffrent Tranny case. probably newer. or mabay even a diffrent Tail shaft for the C6. I just need the right combo is all.

as for the question that Lamkin asked. I dont know if there was a 5 spd available back then. could be wrong. My old truck just has the old 4 speed manual in it right now. thats what I am looking to take out, to replace it with the C6. it wouldnt be a big deal if I didnt care about the 4-wheel drive. but I want to keep it in there.

I have a 66 Ford 4x4.It originally came with a 352/390,4 spd granny gear trans and single spd transfer case.It now has a 428,c-6 and a 2 spd transfer case. You can use any transmission/transfer case from any truck that came with a 352/390 engine.Your options are;4 spd or c-6 trans that is "married" to the transfer case(that means it is directly bolted together) or 4 spd or c-6 that is "divorced" from the transfer case(that means there is a drive shaft connecting the two).Hope this helps.

offroad...IMHO the C-6 NP(New Process) 205 is about as good as it gets reguardless of the motor. I ran that combo for years and failed to blow it up...U-joints and driveshafts are another story.
As mentioned the C-6 needs to be for an FE, no others will fit an FE. To mount the 205 to the C-6 you remove the tailshaft housing and bolt up the 205. The 205 you're looking for will have a special, Ford housing to allow fitment to the C-6. There might also be issues with tailshaft length, I cannot remember. You can also easily convert(twin stick conversion) the 205 to allow 2WD low, which I found very handy.
FE/C-6/NP 205, DANA 60 w/lockers front and rear and your good to go!
Thanks Prostock and Iontkendall. this helps out a ton. Looks like I am almost there. I have the FE C6, the Truck has a Dana 60 Rear and Dana 40 front. (just need the lockers.) now all I need to get is the NP 205. thanks again.

Exactly. I dont plan on using 4WD while pre-running. I actually would prefer to not have 4WD at all. but the truck has been in the family since the early 70's. So I told myself before I started the project that I wouldnt cut it up to bad. I want to give it some nice suspension but nothing to radical. Roll cage but nothing supper. keep it original in state with some steroids added.
