64 292 -- Won't Start
So, no spark from coil, it is getting 12V to the coil with switch at ON position. All components are fairly new, after I reinstalled the original powerplant, I replaced battery, points, coil, condensor, wires, plugs, voltage regulator, etc. Point gap looks OK but I don't want to pull the points till I narrow down the fault. Truck has been running great up until then. Points probably have 10,000 miles or so on them since set.
It's been very humid here lately, and wondering if maybe they became corroded enough to prevent the field to collapse in the coil when they open. One other thing -- The coils today require a resistance wire -- which (oops?) I assume the truck has in the wiring already? Yes/No?
In any case, I thank God that I know it's not something major like a brain box or computer or some other $900 part, and the old gal had the courtesy to break down in my garage!
Not wanting to mess with (correctly set) points unless all signs pointed to those, I pulled the condensor off and noticed a bit of oil/moisture/corrosion where it was mounted to the dist. body. Wiped it off with a rag and tightened back down. Nice white/blue spark at coil wire to ground. Yay.
