What is the tube called that goes from the exhaust manifold to the auto choke and where can I get one? 1978 f100 with a 300 ci in line 6

Thanks,
Jeff

I don't think that part has a name, ask for it just like you did here "tube - that goes from the exhaust manifold to the auto choke" As for buying one try some of the website sponsors like Bronco Graveyard .

I believe it's called a stove pipe. You can find them in the HELP section of your parts house....theyre pretty generic. Be sure to install the insulation around it.

I had the same problem when I changed my intake manifold this spring. No one sells the Bimetal stovepipe tube any more. Even the dealerships could not get it for me. They told me to buy and use brakeline tubes. I done that in the past and they burn out with pinholes from the exhaust gases. I was lucky to have another choke tube that still had some length to it and fit it on.
The problem is finding a tube that does not corrode from the exhaust gases so fast. So if you find what metal is used and who may supply these tubes will be nice to have a supplier around my woods. If I can get what metal is used, then I will stock up on them.

The tube doesn't get exhaust gases into it (unless someone has erroneouly drilled into the manifold). It merely picks up the heat from the hot metal...just like a heat exchanger. Visit your local HELP section.

That's right. If it is sucking up exhaust gas, put a plug in it. There is just a small recess that it sits in.

I have checked the help section in 2 different parts stores and found nothing. Asked the guys behind the counter and they knew nothing. It seems nowdays if the computer dont tell them they dont have a clue.

That is right about the exhaust gas. My 85 is a chamber, but I have a 74 hornet and the choke tube goes right through the exhaust manifold and out the bottom to try and draw heat for the exhaust gases. Some of the older model have that.
So if it is an enclosed chamber, then try the brakeline idea. You will have to make a flare to fit back on where it threads to the chokebody.
