hello. i have had a 460 block waiting for me to build for about 8 months and now i want to build it. After some researching i have decided to go all motor on my 460 stroked to a 601 cid. i want to run mabey 12 or 13 to 1 compression on either alcohal or nitromethane, if i can get my hands on that. So my question is with this high of a compression i MIGHT want to add the bottle later. Mabey a 100 shot or 200 shot depending on how much power i make just motor. By the way my block is a 71 lincoln mark 3 if that helps.
Now, first thing is you need to rethink your cubic inches or rethink what block your going to use. Even the frpp A460 block only claims the ability to go to 598 cid. To get over 600 cid on a factory block would require sleeving atleast some of the cylinders and boring to a 4.5" bore and the use of a 4.75" stroke crank. It can be done but takes a lot of clearencing, and way more money into a comparitably weak block than it would cost to just buy an aftermarket block. Next 13:1 compression is too low for alky or nitromethane, I run 13.5:1 on gas (granted it's race gas 112 octane) you need to be upwards of 14+ comp.
i was looking for a kit that would create that cid. all i kept finding was some that came with the block. i coldnt find any so i asked then kept looking. i figured with the custom pistons from ross racing i could create that. i knew it would have to be custom, but i guess i just didnt think about the clearencing issues. also i figured that if later the walls were too thin i could fill in the block with hard block.
