If you plan on towing a lot, you should not go to Ford. They rebuild with stock parts. You need heavy duty for towing. You should get the sonnax kit, and replace the stock aluminum planet gears and ring with steel, etc. There are other upgrades you can get. Ford designed the trans to shift without the truck shaking. They do it buy having the trans slip a little when it shifts. If you are towing anything heavy it will fail. If you are just riding around, Ford is probably fine.
look no further than 1 of these 4 anything else is just a waste of 2500 bucks because sooner or later it will need it again. my .00002
these are the e4od/4r100 experts and built to last

I don't know if all Ford dealers do this or not but my local dealer offers the so called Ford rebuilds and also the Jasper rebuilds. The Jaspers cost a little more but have a better warranty as I recall.
You can also buy the Ford rebuilds over the counter and install it yourself but not so with the Jasper.
