Some of you may remember that I picked up a 78 D60 quite a while back, and I was going to put it under my 460 truck with coils/radius arms... That plan has gotten scrapped, due to trying to comply with rules that call for stock type suspension and run in as many classes possible at the bogs...
Anyhow, long story short, my diesel rides like absolute crap, the springs are shot, and the TTB is, well, TTB... I have an 88 60 laying around that needs a bunch of parts, and that complete 78 axle.
I want to do coils/radius arms under this truck, not so much for flex, but, for the ride, it is my DD... For the 460 truck, I had planned on going with 5.5" EB coils from Wild Horses, BC Broncos or the likes... But, I don't know how those will do with 1300 lbs of IDI sitting on top of them. I don't need a heck of alot of lift, Truck is only running 33's currently, and it is the tow rig. I'm out for stock F350 rideheight, so, probably 3-4" above where it sits now(1/2" off the bumpstops at rest, springs are SHOT) so, I will have to do some engine crossmember trimming, but, that's no big deal. I do wheel this truck mildly, but, for the most part, it's a pavement pounder.
Anyone have a reccomendation for coils for this sucker? I'm going into parts gathering mode here... LOL
All I can say is, I dont think EB springs are an option for you- way too soft to be carrying that diesel!! Try hitting the junkyard and finding an old F-150 with old school lift coils on it (stout) At least if they turn out too stiff, your brackets are common enough you could shop around for something more appropriate. Good luck (I do have a set of these old scool coils if you are interested)
Who makes the stiffest lift springs? I'm looking for lift springs for a 80's F150 that I'm swapping in a 400 (not as heavy as a 460, but not really light) and adding a winch bumper. Trail flex is secondary, no extreme off road, but It sees its share of logging roads.
I'm not worring about holding up a 460... That truck has leaves and is keeping them... The one tha's getting coils has a diesel...
I was driving the 05 F350 at work today and had a brain fart... Lift springs for an 05/06 Super Duty might work nicely....
I've also been tossing around the idea of airbags... The rear is going that way, wouldn't be tooo hard to do the front too... LOL
