I would like to replace the worn out 352 and 3 speed column shift in my 66 F-100 shortbed with a 302 and, I believe, C-4 auto out of my grandmothers 77 Granada(low miles and it's free). Would anyone have an idea on what driveshaft length I might need? I don't want to do the swap, measure the driveshaft and then wait to find one or have it made. The truck is my daily driver, so I need to be able to do the swap in a couple of days.
Also, what other parts might be usable from the Granada. Would any of the power steering parts, tilt wheel or disc brake parts fit and still be safe enough to use on a truck.
Thanks, Matt
none of the grenade suspension parts will work. before you start you will need a set of small block- cleveland block motor stands. you can get them out of a 79 or earlier pickup. as for the drive shaft well i wish i could help you there, never put a c4 in a pickup. good luck. measure from the front of the tranny to the rear of the tranny in your truck and in grammas car. figure the difference, longer or shorter, and you will know how much to change the drive shaft. you can measure your shaft and go to the junk yard and find one the right length before you start.
Jim Barry gives good advice about measuring the both of the transmissions! And having the 302 on hand will allow you to round up all the pieces for this swap before you take your truck apart. I would go to the junk yard and find motor mounts from a 79 or older truck that came with a small block. I would also grab the cross member from this truck. Consider shift linkage, acclerator linkage, kick down linkage, cooling and exhaust system issues. Keep us posted as this project goes along, I know lots of people are interested in small blocking there FE's.
