Go to the dealer and find the guy that told you they never heard of it and call him a liar to his face cause thats what he is. Many thousands of folks are suffering with this problem and Ford wont back them up cause it's too expensive for them. They made a management decision that they would rather abandon these owners than admit they designed a faulty head. It's really amazing that for decades we never had head/plug blowouts but now they cant get it right. OK-end of rant off to Toyota I go.
Does anyone know if Ford has fixed this in the new 5.4s? If so what year did they start the fix? ( of course they will never admit they had a problem but.. anyway..

Late 2003 is what I've heard for the fix. I know for sure the newer ones don't have this problem b/c they have more threads.
The change over date from the 4 to 8 thread heads was 11/14/02. This is the head build date, which should be visible on the head through the fender well.
Back-Tap - I just saw this in my 5.0 Mustang magazine. This tool is for cross threaded spark-plug holes. One thing that caught my eye about this tool is in red.
"The Back-Tap's patented collapsible design allows it to be placed through the spark-plug hole and into the chamber. A mandrel is then drawn back, expanding the tool's threaded area and traveling into the clean threads at the botton of the spark-plug hole. The Back-Tap repairs the damaged threads as it is drawn up through the spark-plug hole, bringing debris and metal filings with it"
