Well some of you knew i was looking at a Bronco on Evilbay. Well I went today and looked at it, and brought it home with me. I made it about 50 miles on my 180 mile trip home with my dad following me with my car trailer, and puttt puttt bawww. Luckily it died right before a rest area and i coasted right to a parking spot. Went to start it up, and click, nothing. Well it was a combo of water in the dizzy, and a toast alternator. Im still happy with it, but i dont know what gears are in it. The front gawr is 2990 rear is 3580. vin is 015hlc34783. anybody got any ideas? pretty decent I thought for 1200$$. The guy was really decent about it, he told me 1500, and I brought a cashiers check for 1500, but he came out and told me he offered it to some others for 1200, so he wrote me a check for the difference. Anybody know what engine is in it? Its a 351, he says its a m, but is it?
Most likely it is a 351M, but easy check is the thermostat housing on the block or on the intake. Block 351M, intake 351W.
As to gears go look at the diff tags it should say.
Well, its got some decent 32" all terrains on it now, so ill leave those for the time being. Gonna get it all cleaned up, seats, dash pad, steering wheel cover, fix the back window. how do you open the back hatch, doesnt the window have to be down? Its got a decent clunk from the rear end when its put into gear, so I've got to investigate that. Gonna give it a homebrew paintjob, not sure if im going to the red, or the black. I want to get some kinda of drop in locker for the rear, and also the rear brakes need looked at.
I'll have to look at the thermostat housing and see for sure.
nothing really for rust at all. There is a spot on the hood, just surface rust. theres some bubbling in the door jams, nothing serious at all, just some rough sand paper and rustoleum. There is a spot that is dented in on the driverside taillight where he backed into somthing, but i think i can knock it all out from the inside.
Nice buy! With the 'H' engine code in the VIN# it came from the factory with the 351M. 'S' code is the 400. I think most of those came with 3.50 gears.
Got the bronco all put back together with a alternator, cleaned all the charging wiring, cleaned back brakes so they would adjust, and cleaned the interior. Now ive got to tackle the clunk. i figured its coming from the t case, as theres no excessive slop in the rear end, and when i have someone put it in drive while i watch underneath, i can hear it inside the case. What case does it have, 205? is this just one of those things where i change the case out? and on edit, where do i get seat covers for this thing?
Nice rig for 1200. Another easy way to tell if it is a M engine it will have 8 valve cover bolts. Make sure your u'joint at the case isn't in bad shape.
<fix the back window. how do you open the back hatch, doesnt the window have to be down?>
You can go inside the bronco, and start undoing the screws on the inspection plate. Take that off, and follow the wire. Mine wasn't working, but turned out the wire was just loose, jiggled and snugged it up, and good to go. It could be the motor, and I'm lucky it wasn't.
You mentioned you wanted a drop in locker. First you need to know if you have a Limited Slip, b/c a drop in locker won't work unless you have a oped diff.
Like previously stated, it's 3.50 gears, IF stock.
I like the aussie locker, but a lock right would work just as good, but alittle louder. There is also the powertrax, but not worth the $400 or so dollars. Quick locks is also another name that comes to mind, but I'd suggest the aussie locker first, then the lock right second.
Also the engine is a 351M, IF stock.
You checked all the u joints(hopefully it's the one connected to the t case, b/c that'd be a easy fix)?
For a Low rust Bronco $1,200 is a good price. You'll have fun with that thing.
