I read a post where a guy put a new style bumper on his truck, with the holes in it that allowed more air into the front of the rad, and claims he got much better cooling, trans temps etc. Sounds like an idea, but instead of changing out the bumper on my 93, I fabricated up a 30 x 5 sheet metal scoop that bolts on to the existing holes in the front bottom of the rad frame. I built it on a bit of an angle so the front of the scoop hangs below the bumper about 2.5 inches. Painted up flat black, looks like it was ment to be there. Just passing on an idea. (I dont drive through any bush, so I dont anticipate getting it bent up being just below and aft of the front bumper)
Oh ya, I built it out of 16 ga steel, with folded and welded ends, so its no so flimsy that it can get knocked off and driven up through the rad, or A/c condensor, or tranny cooler.
I have ordered a trany temp guage, plan to do some light towing this fall, but as far a engine temp goes, hotest I've ever seen my stock guage is just about up to the N in Normal, so I doubt I will really be able to tell any differance on the guages. The scoop will direct more air at the bottom of my rad, has to be a good thing, since the upper sections behind the stock grill is all covered up with A/C condensors, tranny cooler, and my ram air mod. No pheasants here, but maybe will get the odd squirrel head.
Unit looks like a small air dam/ground spoiler on a rice rocket.LOL.
Look under the cover of your air cleaner lid, you will immediately see what is called the soup bowl. Better air flow without it. Also if you check out my gallery you will see pictures of how I've re- directed airflow ram from the grill area up to an improved air inlet scoop. I've measued 2" of boost pressure in this improved duct inlet at 50 mph.
