I sure appreciate the MPG/engine size/ratio reports. I'll probably try for a 5.4L but won't be disappointed if I end up with a 4.6L. The 3.55 ratio seems to be the best for mileage when keeping with the stock tire size or at least close. I have a buyer for my '95 so it looks like I'll be "movin' on up" to the '97-'03 model and board real soon. Thanks again!!!
For me, the '97-'03's are the best. I looked at trading my '02 on an '05 F-150 but just too many little things I don't like about them. One thing, I need to seat 3 in front and the 40/20/40 bench seat in the '04-06's do not cut it. Also the 5.4 in the '04-06's feel down on power to me. Don't get me wrong, they are nice trucks, just not for me.
I just recently bought a 1998 4.6 super cab and it's got plenty of get up and go power for me and passing with it is no problem on the highway. I came from a intrigue with a 3.5 L and that thing was really peppy and haven't missed it 1 bit. If you expect something to be racing everything on the road with then a large truck no matter the engine is not gonna be a good choice
well said paul.i test drove a new(in 04)body style, and the old heritage body.-----the ride, power, seat feel, was better in my view in the old body style.so i bought the old.now i'm glad i did as the first production year of the new body had a few bugs.
Yesterday I took a trip down to southern MN about 175 miles round trip, and burned a little over a 1/4 tank. By my rough calculation I assume I am getting about 19-21mpg on the highway while cruising at 65 mph.
