Hi folks! I'm looking at adding a tonneau to my truck and have narrowed my options to Bak-Flip and Retrax. I'm looking for feedback on both from those who have them.
I am most interested in a cover that is:
1. waterproof
2. lockable and secure
3. flexible and easy to use and install
4. durable and long-lasting
I know that the Bak-Flip product is relatively new, but figure there are probably lots of people who have them. How are they holding up?
Both products look like they would meet my needs, but I always like to check in with others for objective opinions.
I guess no one has one of these?
I'm not a big fan of hard or roll up hard tonneau covers because they always seem to be in the way. When it's rolled up you have a big box at the front of the truck box. The ones I've seen were hard to keep aligned and didn't seem to roll up very easily.
I've got a Truxedo soft tonneau cover on my truck and I think it's great.
It's not quite waterproof as water can leak past the side rails a bit. I haven't actually noticed any water inside the box yet but it's possible.
It's not really lockable but there is a latch inside that you can't open unless the tailgate is opened. Lock the tailgate and you can't access it. Sure someone could cut the cover open if they wanted but even with a hard cover they'll find someway to get in.
When I want to haul my atv in the truck I roll up the cover and it doesn't take up hardly any room at the front of the box.
I think it looks really good too
Thanks for your reply, Racerguy. Your cover looks nice. I like that you have full access to the bed when you need it. That's partly why I like the Bak-Flip design, plus it's a hard top and secures from underneath as well. You can flip it up and out of the way to access as much of the bed as you need--and you can remove it easily as well. It's relatively new, so I 'm not sure how well it's holding up and how waterproof it is. That's why I'm hoping some Bak-Flip owners will chime in.
