The other day I drove my truck around the corner to the mailbox in my apartment complex, and turned off the truck because the parking brake won't hold it in place. When I tried to start it again, it just made a whining noise. I replaced the starter solenoid, and then it stopped making the noise completely, I also got the battery checked and they said it was still good. I have since replaced the starter and it did nothing still. I tried to get the truck jumped, but it still didn't do anything, and it wouldn't even get any power to the headlights or wipers while I was jumpered to my friends truck. Any idea? my friend suggested a fuse might be blown but from what we could tell there are only four fuses under the headlight switch. Is there a master fuse that could be blown that we can't find?
Make sure that all of the wires that went to the battery side of the solenoid are hooked up on the same side as the battery cable.
I believe that your initial problem was a bad starter bendex.
I think that the problem is in the wiring on the new solenoid.
There should be at least one or two wires on the same post as the pos. battery cable. Only one on the other side going to the starter.
I was thinking that I might not have put all the wires back into the same place on the solenoid. As soon as I put them all back on I looked at them and thought, did I do that right? Looking at the solenoid I have the battery cable and another red wire on the left most post. Then the two ignition wires on their respective posts in the center; red, then black. On the right most post I have two gray/black wires that go up and then there is one that goes down to the starter. Is that the correct configuration? I can take a pic with my camera and post that if it would be more helpful.
The cable going to the starter, should be on one post by itself. All the smaller wires, with the large eye terminals goes on the same post as the battery cable..
I attached the wires correctly to the solenoid and it made the same sound it did previously. Upon inspection of the bendix it looked like it was worn down quite a bit and so I went to an alternator and starter shop in town to get a new one. I should have the new one tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
