Angry Dazed & Confused

Hi Everyone
New to the board but have been reading (lurking) for a while!!
Lots of GOOD info and thanks for it

I try to fix most auto problems myself.... have been reading about
brake light & ABS light and how to solve but I'm some what confused???
Have a 98 f150 standard, 2wheel drive, low miles!!!
Both Brake & ABS light came on at the same time
Had the recall for cruise control done.
Read about replace speed sensor and also about a possible short in the harness...just recently had that recall done.... could that have anything to do with it... brakes are fine, pads, fluid level, pedal , didn't try the ABS
Are the two light the same problem or are they separate???

Is your parking brake lever fully released? I doubt that's it, but I like to throw in my 2 cents worth. Rob

Welcome to the forum

On my Windstar, when they both light, it is from low fluid. Try unplugging the plug on the master cyl. res. and see if they go out when you restart the truck. If so, it is either too low or you have a bad fluid level switch.

Thanks for the reply's and the welcome.
disconnected the plug and the brake light went out....the abs light light stayed on, am I correct that this is normal now that the plug is disconnected?
By they way the fluid level is good.

When I had the cruise recall done on my truck, it triggered the brake and ABS lights for some reason. When they reseated the clunky fuse pigtail they added, the brake light went out. It took a couple of ignition cycles for the ABS light to go out.

tested OK,,, the emergency brake switch seem fine also.
I think it all to strange that this happened soon after the cruise control
new harness was installed??? Have to try and reseat that and see what happens!!!

THANKS Again the site is very COOL
