97 ABS light on
OK I have searched the forums here and can not find someone with the same problem so here we go.
1997 Ranger 146,xxx miles. The ABS light has been on for about a year now and I have ran out of ideas. The brake light is not on with the abs just the abs light. I check my fluid and the float. Fluid is full and float is not stuck, check all my brake lights. The one on the cab was burned out, replaced light still on. I replaced the sensor in the rear axle, Light still on. I bought a ABS code reader ( some how I payed like $150 for a code reader and it does not read ABS codes go figure! ) I plug in the new ABS code reader and it can not connect ???
Ideas?

Ohh, that's good.
Here's what the 1999 Service Manual sezs, "The yellow ABS warning indicator is used to indicate a malfunction and a deactivation of the RABS II. To check this indicator, first follow the procedure for Red Brake Warning Indicator Self-Check, and allow the dey to spring back from the START position to the RUN position. The yellow ABS warning indicator should perform a self-check by illuminationf for approximately two seconds and then turning off. If it turns back on and does not flash, then a system concern has been detected. Retrieve the DTCs. If the yellow ABS werning indicator fails to illuinate refer to Symptom Chart."

i think "usually" the ABS light coming on without any other explanation found is probably the ABS sensor on one of the wheels, or a fuse. I unhooked somethin somewhere, maybe pulled a fuse, i can't remember for sure.. to get mine to stay disengaged and the light be off.. so now i'm driving without ABS, but that's ok with me.
