Diesel or gasser? Removing the muffler on a diesel is a common practice. With the windows up, you probably won't notice any difference at all. With the windows down, the turbo whistle and powerstroke growl is pleasing to the ears You will gain turbo noise and lose EGT, win win situation!
Just looked at your gallery, says you got a 5.4. Wow, w/o a muffler it must be REALLY f'n loud lol. I would keep the muffler on, if anything I'd get a 40-series Flowmaster on there; plenty of V8 sound there.
I can't imagine the noise level trying to merge a freeway with a 5.4 w/o a muffler, or pull a load up a hill...forget it, too loud for me. Damn I sound old saying that.
Will removing the muffler on a PSD (6.0) constitute tampering with the exhaust system and void my extended warranty? Been thinking about doing this but don't want to lose 3 years/35,000 that are left on the warranty.
The muffler had already been removed when I bought my 01. If I stay under 2000 rpm, it is quieter than a Burb I had with an Aero-Turbine(very cool sound). When I stomp on it, it growls REALLY nice! Stomp on it too much and you get a real Nasty(in a bad way) high pitched, almost 4 cylinder screech! It's hard to explain, but once you hear it, you don't want to hear it again!
ticket for what? I was told it is perfectly legal as long as there is a cat. Unless, of course, you have noise ordinances. It is not half as loud as a Harley with straight pipes.
