Normal Transmission Temps

My Transmission temp runs about 150-165 on the Hwy at about 70mph. Is this about normal? What is everyone else noticing for a normal temp and how much should it go up if I am pulling my 8000lbs trailer?

Assuming you are at 90 deg, I would say you would be running about 75 above ambient so you are ok. My stock trans would run at 110 sometimes above ambient when towing the 8000# toy hauler.

BTS rebuilt my trans and now it is about 75-80 above ambient towing that Toy Hauler. That Brian must have slipped a refridgerator in my trans.

Mine runs the same as yours, around 150-165, on the highway in these current hot temps (especially the last couple weeks).

Around town it can get up to 190 or so if I'm doing a lot of stop/go or any hard driving or other silliness.

Totally stock, no trailer or load, about 140 around town last couple of days. And that is high for me. Probably because of the hi 90s temps and near 100% humidity. Whew, definately AC weather.

My only real load is a fish and ski boat, but I drive less than 2 miles to put it in the water so I can't offer any useful info there.

mine rarley hits 180, when it was really hot last week in IL, I was seeing 200
All winter long, my temp gauge never moved from the 140 degree mark

I am running synthetic ATF Dextron/Mercon III and a MAG HYTEC tranny pan
stock tranny cooler
going to add a secondary tranny cooler and filter at some point

Normal tranny temps run between 70-100 above ambient. However as long as you aren't seeing sustained temps above 200 you are just fine. 220 is what I consider the redline. If you do see sustained temps over 200 install the 6.0 cooler. My temps dropped 40 degrees. You can find them on Ebay all the time. I paid $60 for a Brand new in the box unit.
