Just a quick question, i know MBRP makes a cat delete pipe for their systems, but mine is still stock, can i get a pipe for a stock exhaust or would i be doing something bad. I heard another F-350 the other day and it sounded great, alot of turbo whine which is what i am looking for. I dont have the money to upgrade my whole exhaust so i wanted to try this out. Any info wuold be greatly appreciated.
This topic has been very hot the last week or so. Do a search on it. AFE makes a pipe fthat will fit the stock system. Any of the FTE sponsors can get you one at a great price.
Ok, well to anyone who knows where i can get a pipe let me know. I did a search on the AFE site but couldnt find anything. Im most likely bilnd or something, but i would like to try this out. Another question, along with the audible increase on the turbo whine, will it change the sound of the exhaust itself?, i have a 4'' magnaflow muffler on it also, so i wasnt too sure on how this will sound.
I have the same set up and just ordered the MBRP. I am told this may have to be modified a little to make it work. I just got off the phone with my wife at home who said it just arrived so I will try the install tonight and post how the install goes.
Removing the cat WILL change the sound of the exhaust... You'll get an awesome rumble at higher rpm's/ accelleration... I have the MBRP, and it totally changed the sound of that under heavier accelleration, so I am very willing to bet that it would chang the sound of a stock exhaust too.. You are getting rid of all those screens inside the cat... The flow will be much better, so the sound will not be muffled like the cat does...
You gonna like it bud...
I got on mine today, going up a hill with a brick wall to my right, and the rumble that I now have is AWESOME! I didn't even have it with my MBRP with the cat still on...
O.k. So far so bad. The pipe from MBRP is longer than what is needed by quite a bit if installing on a Banks exhaust. I can't say how much to long yet as I still can't get that $*%&^ CAT out of there. It comes with a hanger and the bolt flange which will need to be cut off. Neither is needed. Basically a pipe witha slight bend in it is all you need. You might be better off just going to a muffler shop and having them make one for you. I will be able to get this to work but am going back out to do some modifying of the delete pipe.
Just installed mine today. (have 4" MBRP turbo back) The Cat pipe was not to bad to do. The easiest thing to do is pull all the hanger off and go from there. The sound is awesome. Great grumble under throttle and the jet whistle made me smile from ear to ear. There is a little more noise on the hiway but no more than a regular aftermarket exhaust on a gasser. A must do and fairly inexpensive mod. LOVE IT...
O.k. I am done and did the road test. Here is to those of you with the Banks exhaust that want to put in a cat delete. First bit of advice is just go get a straight piece of 4" tubing and put it in. I used chixdigit's advice and put some WD-40 on the connections and let it sit for a bit then it finally did free up and came out. The cat was spot welded on each side though so I cut those out with my dremmel tool. On the delete pipe, I cut the flange and a bit more of the pipe off so basically it was just a straight piece. I will post pics in my gallery in a little while. I started it up with the exhaust disconnected right before the cat and I must say I LOVED the sound. The turbo was extremely loud. Anyway I tightened everything down and took it out for a spin. I was a little disappointed as I wanted more turbo than what I can really hear. It is louder but not that much. The low end rumble under load is great though. Maybe a muffler delete is in the future for that turbo sound I wanted.
Thanks Nave For All Of Us With The Banks System Let Us Know How Is Goes? So You Are Saying Just Go Get A 4 Inch Pipe Instead Of Going With The Mbrp Cat Delete Pipe? By The Way Hav You Seen The Mbrp Cool Tube I Believe It Is Called To Replac Ethe Muffler?
I forgot to mention that it does seemto have better throttle response and the truck seems to really like it. I always thought my truck had great throttle response but it really seems to be a bit better. EGT's have gone down a little also but I can't give a number yet cause I wasn't driving it normally.
Yes, if I had to do it again I would just get a piece of tubing and put it in there. This is a great product if you have the MBRP exhaust which has the flange to bolt up to but with the Banks all you have to do is take the cat out and put a pipe in. There is no flange to bolt to anymore on the CAT. This is why I cut about 5 inches off the whole thing. I have seen the power tube but didn't really look into it. I think tomorrow I will try to get a little longer pipe to make a muffler delete pipe too. I think you could get it at any muffler shop or maybe even napa.
