Has anyone just removed from the cat back on the stock exhaust, and have a pipe made to exit in front of the rear tire ??? Getting rid of the tailpipe, muffler, and cat,,I think this is what I will try,,,on my 06' PSD,,that way If needed I can just re-install it !

I bought the MBRP cat delete pipe and put it in my '04 X's OEM exhaust. There are those who say the MBRP pipe will not work in an OEM exhaust. Well, I ran one on mine for 15K miles before I got the MBRP turbo back and easily swaped it out twice. As for turbo whine, it is definitely more noticeable with the cat delete pipe in the OEM exhaust and the whine is really loud with the turbo back MBRP with the cat delete pipe installed.

Hey Navy,
I'll bet that removing the muffler too will make the exhaust a lot louder.
I would actually think TOO loud, for my taste.
Definitely let us know what you think about it...

Also, man- sorry you don't think the turbo is considerably louder.. When you're driving/ taking off/ letting off the gas, have you had your right window(s) down, so you can hear what it sounds like on that side? Also, when the truck is idling, can you now actually hear the turbo spinning (not the turbo whine, but just a spinning noise coming out the tailpipe..)? I coundn't hear that before, and I love the way that sounds too... When my truck is just idling it even sounds bada$$ now, with that crazy spinning noise coming out the pipe... Lemme know if you have that too..

Congratulations on your new mod...
You too rgonot..

It is a little louder with the window down and I am sure it sounds great to people beside/behind me but not like what I thought it would be. I guess that Banks muffler really quiets it down because there wasn't that much of a difference. I could always here the turbo at idle out the tailpipe but not really a spinning noise more of jus the whine. Like I said I fired it up with everything off from just in front of the cat back and it sounded AWESOME. I thought it would be abnoxiously loud but it really wasn't just sounded awesome.

DSMMH,

Depending on the pipe you got they used to work OK on the stock system. But that has been changed and it will in most cases leak on a stock down pipe.

Basically a pipe witha slight bend in it is all you need. You might be better off just going to a muffler shop and having them make one for you. I will be able to get this to work but am going back out to do some modifying of the delete pipe.
Navy, since the up wind fitting is male to female it shouldn't leak, but the second is not the best config being female to male. If you would, watch that fitting for a while a let me know if it leaks. Thanks! ~Brad

I removed my Cat last night. Full Banks monster exhaust. I didn't have a 4" piece of pipe, so I used a 3.5" piece off the stock parts. Everything is bolt on so I didn't want to cut anything. The cat itself had 3.5" male ends, so that's why a 3.5" pipe, slipped right in the existing Banks exhaust. The piece was 21". I did a 0-60mph run before the cat was removed in Level 7 and got a 8.48 seconds in 475 feet. I started with my foot on the brake and spooled it up. It barely broke traction and hooked up like normal. I've got 33" muds, dually, 4.10's CC LB. After the Cat Delete I noticed a little more hissing at idle and Way more Bark in the higher levels and sounded like my old 7.3 , didn't notice any difference in the stock setting as far as sound. Ok, Cat out, Spooled up and for the first time left 4, 20 foot strips of black (thus not helping my time) and ran about the same time in 450 feet. Im not sure but it feels like, from idle the turbo may spool up slower, but It is really happy higher up. We'll see how it does towing since that is where I really use my truck. ~Brad

Awesome feedback Brad... Thanks for sharing this type of info... I too really do feel like my turbo spools up SLOWER after I removed my cat... VERY weird to me, as nothing else changed... Anyone have any ideas as to why that might be?

Thanks for the feedback Brad. I have not done any real time tests like that yet but I thought the opposite of you and chixdigit, as I think my turbo may spool up a little bit faster. Not sure though may just be me. The truck seems to like the cat removed no matter where I am at in the rpm range, or mph.

I mostly notice the "off-idle" turbo lag. It is one of those things that you get used to so fast that you forget what the old setup was like. When Im bored I'll put the cat back in a compare again. It only takes me about 30 min, gotta love air tools. I think my 0-60 times could be better, but I keep burning out off the line....Darnit... Still with shorter 0-60 distance. Oh wait, this truck is strictly for towing...Gotta stop this nonsense......
