tornado= better mileage?

Does anyone have any experience in these tornado type things that go in your intake for better mileage? Do they actually work? What is your opionion on them.

It's a gimmick. Been wasting peoples' money for years.

Dont waste your money on it. The only thing it is good at is being a paperweight.

Like previously stated, it's a gimmick.

You don't get a 100th of a mpg metter, and not a fraction of a HP either. IF you think about it, yes pushing air into your intake is a good thing, but it just spins it in, which does nothing, b/c it's still the same rate of air, but now it's just twisting around.

You will get slightly better performance, and MPG due to WWR (Wallet Weight Reduction)......lol

It's a piece of crap that will not improve mileage but has the potential to reduce it. This is because of all of that swirling action which impedes airflow.

Well since it's right next to the throttle plate and most folks drive the speed limit. So your throttle plated is cracked open by a few mm's at best. So how it's going to swirl the air when the throttle plate is restricting it. Now if your at full throttle all the time I can see it could help but then again at that point who's looking for mpg's

The swirling effect Tornado was designed for vehicles with throttle body injection (TBI/CFI) or a carb. This does nothing for the port injected engine found in most of today's new cars (i.e. all engines found in the F150 after 1986).

The thought is swirling the air coming into the afore mentioned TBI or carb would cause the fuel to disperse better as it mixes with the air for a more complete burn and better mileage. In the case of the port injected engine, there is nothing to mix with that air immediately after the throttle body, so after it finally gets to your head, the air flow is just as turbulant as when it enterd the air filter. At the head is where the engine receives its shot of fuel, way after the effect of the Tornado has died and impeded airflow.

As was mentioned, the throttle plate causes a hang-up with any swirl motion anyway, EFI or carb. This hang up is even caused at WOT. The better idea with a carb or TBI engine is to install a spacer with the swirl pattern.

The better idea for a post '86 F150 is to simply not to buy the Tornado or any of its various copy-cat designs.

I just slapped on a tunnel ram with 2 holley 600 carbs to get that ram flow effect anyways. That setup went through alot of Pinto's back in the day.
