This is what should happen if you are on dry pavement and have 4X engaged. In fact, this is a good way to test for 4X functionality on a used truck and before buying.

It's normal since there is no engagement (open axle in front).
ok, so maybe after reading this the answer to my question is here, but i missed it. mine i just found out is not actually engaging into 4low. i got stuck in a mud pit, and i know that the front was spinning, as mud was flying from the front, but i definitely was not in low. it is clicking in, and i can hear it click in, which makes me think that the electric motor is ok. i am really kind of lost in what this might be, and really am just kind of looking for some direction on where to go with this. anyone have any idea with this one? thanks in advance with this one.

Sounds like a transfer case problem.
I posted this a little while back, it might help you with the troubleshooting:
ok, i read what you posted, and definitely thanks for the info. so based on what i read, if my truck is going into 4H, it's not the electric motor on the exterior of the transfer case. what does that leave me with than, just an overall major problem with the transfer case, and one possibility that the cam or whatever is broken that selects 2, 4H, & 4L? sorry, i'm just trying to limit what i need to look for. that and i'm not very familiar with transfer cases, i have a general idea how they work, but that's about it. thanks for all the help
