Greetings everyone, Seems like my '63 F100 doesnt want to cooperate. Cant seem to get fuel from tank to carb. I've tested both fuel pumps I have and getting about 3 1/2 psi. My lines are all good with factory setup. At a 15 second crank I only get about 1/3 cup of gas(if that). I'm wondering if the pickup line in the tank is out o whack. I had the tank out of the cab last summer but was running after that. Truck only sees summer months and this is first time to mess with since spring. What kind of setup is inside the tank?? Can it be fixed?? I've taken air and blew back through the lines. Any suggestions on next test?? thanks for any help.
Please define "both fuel pumps" I never saw but one on these old trucks. Maybe the two are competing with other somehow. I was going to suggest removing the line from the tank at the pump on the side of the engine and blow air back into the tank with 100 psi (remove the tank cap first).
Sounds to me like a bad pump or a blockage in a line somewhere.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
Check the farrel nut going in to the tank. It just a common 5/16 steel line it has a SAE flare on the end if it's loose you might be sucking air in.
Do you have a filter befor the pump? It might be cloged.
Thanks for the input fells. I've blown air back threw the lines and checked the nut on and off probably six times. I've ran out of options and thats why I think the tank feed line is screwed up. Anyone else????
Hum......
How many miles on this motor?
Try taking the line off at the pump and see how much feul comes out by gravity for 30 sec (Use gallon jug)
I'm thinking that if you get alot or more by gravity then with the pumps your pump cam may be worn down thus not pumping the pump full stroke.
Yeah, I thought about the gravity idea too...no good. The two pumps I have are a newer one and the one thats been on there since I've owned it. Newer one is the older "original" style with the glass bottom on it that screws in place. I might take it back to store and replace just for gee whizz. I'm going to go mess with it some more and see what happens. Thanks for the ideas, I'm willing to hear all. Chow
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Sep-02 AT 03:58 PM (EST)] My 63 did that due to varnished gas that broke loose from the sides of the tank and kept clogging my pick-up tube. Found a tank at a junkyard for $30 that looked new inside. Runs like a top now!!
My 66 had the same problem, ends up that the pickup tube in the tank had small rust pinholes in it just under the flare fitting. Finally found it when I pulled the rubber line from under ther cab and attached it to a boat gas tank in the bed. I chunked the tank and am setting it up for a mustang tank behind the rear axle.
I had to clean my pickup tube out after the truck had sat for 5 years without being moved. I used a wire about the same thickness as a coat hanger. I ran the wire in and out of the tube several times till I could not get anymore debris. Once that was done I have not had a feed problem since. Although if your truck sits for that long for some reason your fuel pump weekens. I had to replace the fuel pump cause as I was driving down the road it would just quit after about a mile. Would start fine, idle fine accellerate fine. Though it would not drive over a good distance. Blowing air into the tank is a good thing, but you need to make sure the walls of the pickup tube in your tank are clean.
