Anyone have part numbers for the edelbrock carb and intake? And what about the best place to buy??
Welcome to FTE the best forum on the web. There are a great many knowledgable folks here. It's a friendly place to hang out.

There are many here that have also dumped new trucks and bought old one for the same reasons you mentioned. Plus a $400-$600/mo payment will buy alot of $3 or $4/gal gas.
Have fun here.

Question

I have just the 300 six in mine. I am going to put in a manual choke myself. In fact I have a question about the carbs on them. Why are they always loose. This is the third truck I bought and the carbs was loose on all of them. Just curious.

People are afraid of breaking the pot metal of the carb cause then they have a REAL Leak ?

The carb shouldn't have to be tightened down that hard.

Just a few inch pounds

Put some BLUE thread locker on the stud threads, it'll keep the carb on there without working loose. I had a 74 Maverick with a 250-6 and the carb would work loose every so often and that cured it.

Thank you both for some sensible answers. I bought a new carb base gasket and put a moderate tightening on them and it is running fine. The thread lock is a great idea also. I am in a good position right now as I have two trucks and I am able to take one down and repair or rebuilt areas on in and not have to get it done in a day. I am going to take the head off the 300 six and get it cleaned up and a valve job done on it before winter.
