I have an '05 F350 SD with stock cd player/radio, i added a sirius starmate satellite radio/fm transmitter. I am happy with the system, don't need crazy volume or bass as I just got it for Howard Stern, my question is this though. I currently have the sitius mounted on the dash where the 4x4 switch would be if I had it and I have concealed all the wires neatly but I have to plug the power wire into the cigerette lighter or the power point and this looks crappy, but looks are not the problem, every time I turn off the truck(and it is a canteen truck, so I turn it off and on about 35 times a day) the sirius stays on and I have to seperately shut it off everytime or leave it on all the time and that along with the other accesories I already have to leave on(refrigeration) would kill my battery eventually. I would like to hard wire it into the fuse panel maybe but I heard there is a resistor or something in the wire and this can't be done. what can i do ?
You could use a simple relay as a switch for the power port. The relay needs a positive which would be on the port already, a ground which is also on the port and a turn on wire which could be picked up by the fuse panel or behind the radio. They are pretty simple to wire up and with this setup your power port would turn on and off with your ignition. Goodluck
Good call on the Relay use Ponch, he could in-turn use his radio's 12volt signal as the "Switch" /signal wire for the relay.
On his SD the power wire should be Lt. Grn/Purple.
