Help! I just purchased an 05 EB Expy with audiophile system. It has the SAT button. I want to have Sirius installed and activated. I asked the salesperson, sales manager and the service manager to make arrangements and let me know the cost of installation. None of them had a clue. I might as well have been asking for them to arrange Howard Stern to broadcast live from the confines of my new Expy. I went to another Ford dealer and talked to the service manager, same non answer. I can't beleive this. I'm giving them an oppourtunity to sell me something at full markup. Does Ford offer this service? Do I need to go to a car audio shop? Do I have satellite built in? What componenets do I need and how much should I expect to pay? Will it work through my exisitng HU?
I went through the same think with my 04 Expedition that has the SAT ready radio. The dealership had no clue as to what I was talking about. If you have the SAT ready radio you need the receiver. I purchased it at - radios_ and_more_ ._ com. Sorry I am not allowed to post links yet. In total it cost me $250.00. I had a local shop do the install for $75.00. Just make sure you order the correct receiver (depending if you have the rear entertainment dvd player). You can call radiosandmore directly, they were great to deal with. I must say it was well worth getting.
Johnfum - Thanks for the reply. Can the Sirius system be operated through the steering wheel controls? Where do they put the receiver? Where do they put the antennae? I was refered to a local shop, (by another Ford dealer), that supposedly has the componenets and is familiar with the installation in my vehicle.
Absolutely, you can use the steering wheel controls just like you would for AM/FM. It is really cool. I have the install instructions (I can send them to you, just give me your email address). These instructions require removal of quite abit of the rear panels, way to much work. The audio shop I had put the receiver underneath the passenger side leg area. Can't even notice it, no wires anywhere- a real clean job. It probably only took the 45 minutes max. The antenna is on the roof, right above the rear drivers side door. I can't even notice it. You would never even know it was installed. You can preset 18 stations via the SAT button- 6 for each SAT1, SAT2, SAT3. Just keep hitting the SAT buttion to scroll through. I'be interested to know if your audio place does have the correct parts needed as I tried everywhere and noone had it until I heard about radiosandmore. Let me know if you want me to send you the install procedures.
I have the same problem trying to get info on the Ford Bluetooth accessory...the dealerships know nothing about genuine accessories. Service, sales, or parts.
I just hooked up sirius in my '04 Explorer EB I belive we have very similar HU's
I got hte sirius Tuner and the Harness adaptor @ www.radiosandmore.com
$200.00 for the tuner and $50.00 for the harness. Had it installed @ Best Buy for $50.00.
Ford Dealer Prices $399 for Tuner, $100.00 for Harness + installation atleast $100.00
Good Luck

Tony-
I sent you an email, let me know if you didn't get it. I mentioned in my email that the instructions detail way to much work required to do the install. My local shop didn't even use them when they installed it. They just mounted the receiver right under the front passenger side (under the glove box). Works great.
Perfect Instructions! I agree it does look a little difficult considering there are many other places to mount the receiver in such a large vehicle. I am not too crazy about drilling holes in the subwoofer enclosure either. Although there must be a method to their madness. Thanks a million for the .pdf file. It gave me a lot of insight on the project.
I guess I'll be the Sirius install expert today... keep it all OEM, please!
Alright, here's the real deal on Sirius Satellite install... if your radio has a SAT button, you can keep reading, if not, go to Best Buy or somewhere and just get an FM modulated unit and be done with it. You can get XM or Sirius this route, but it will have an external reciever that will have to go somewhere on the dash, kinda messy install, IMO.
If you are SAT-ready, you will need to go to the dealership to get the part. I know this because I just installed it into my 2005 expy. The install took about three hours on the driveway one Saturday morning. You cannot, I repeat, cannot go to Best Buy for a unit that will provide an OEM install and work thru the headunit.
Probably want a part number huh? I don't have the reciept w/me, it's in the expy (which is in the shop having the Eddie Bauer goofy gold trim painted body color, but that's another thread). Just tell the parts guy you need the Visteon satellite radio install kit for year/make/model. It comes with the reciever, wiring harness and antenna, make sure it has the instructions, mine did not, had to wait for them to fax them to me. The ford parts guy will tell you it's not available, blah, blah, blah. Trust me it is. This is the coolest way to enjoy satellite radio! I've had it in all of my cars almost since they launched! Again, very cool.
If you need additional help, or the part number, let me know, I can find it or provide more assistance if I can.
Good luck!

Curious to know your total cost for this (parts/labor). I got the OEM parts from radiosandmoore.com for $250.00 and the install cost me $75.00 (local shop). I have an 04 Expy EB. I went this route as the dealer had no idea what I was talking about when I wanted it. Functionality/install went great and I agree radio will never be the same.
I paid $291. and some change from the dealer. That was with tax and all... installed myself w/my brother in about 3hrs, n/c.
Excuse me for a moment for being rude... but what just continues to amaze me is the ignorance of the entire Ford sales/parts/management teams at what sounds like most dealers around the country. If anyone on this board works at a ford dealer, please put in the suggestion box... the need for more training on OEM available parts. Stop sending people to best buy... some prefer the look and integration of having everything as part of the car as the factory would dictate and don't mind paying a little more for that OEM look.
Just my .02
Thanks
Rick Chi town, the kit they sell at radios and more is the Visteon radio just like the dealer will sell you. (Except not at the inflated dealer price). My dealer quoted me 300. 00 for the radio & 100 for the radio harness + more $$ to install. I am so HAPPY I read about this on this website..It saved me $250 easily... but you are right you MUST have that SAT button on your OEM Radio to get the clean Satellite Hard Mount installation. I wanted a clean install & nothing I had to remove each time I go hunting, into the city, etc.. Radio was $250 incl s/H via Nest day air. They email you the install instructions in a *.pdf file.
Works fine in my 04 Sport Trac 4x4...
I am trying to get XM on my wife's Expedition ('04) but I think I am out of luck.....perhaps someone here can help me understand what I can and can not accomplish.
We have the navigation system/radio/DVD unit. There is NOT a SAT button that I know of....but the dealer says they have a hardware unit they can install for $500 that will receive Sirius radio and the steering wheel controls will work and the display will show the info. My problem is that I like XM and have 2 radios already and would only need to pay $6.95 for a third license.
Am I out of luck? If I want the satellite integrated into the navigation system is it Sirius or nothing?
