You want non user friendly computors in the truck, my sat sent my trip/PRO numbers 13 times today, setting off the light on the dash, and beeping loudly and the motion interlock is on, what a PITA. Once is ok, twice is annoying 3 times is irritating now go on out to 13 times and you get the idea.

That's right, I forgot you drove a truck. I'm actually off today I'm not a desk jockey, myself, but I used to be!

I'm glad the truck's computer isn't user friendly. It would just be a distraction and wouldn't be safe.

I'll throw this out there. The reason I haven't yet contributed to this site is a combination of laziness and cheapness.

I'm lucky, I could afford to contribute but I just haven't yet . . . I probably will someday.

It probably a little bit of the contrarian in all of us. Once we are told we "should" do something, we feel compelled NOT to do it.

It ain't right, but those are my reasons.

Hey, that's honest. And that's all I was looking for, personally.
Since I started this silly thread!

I love it when people can just be honest. That's fabulous.

Why did I become a FTE Supporter? Maybe the question should be WHY NOT Become a FTE Supporter? It is only $45.99 for 3 years and you get a free t-shirt. I spend that much money on a nice meal and they don't give me no stinkin' t-shirt. As a moderator on this site I definetly see what Ken goes through (plus much more). He probably doesn't NEED the money but hey, every bit helps.

Now if only I can convince him to accept Canadian coins (like loonies!)

-Matt

P.S. The supporter "badge" is super cool.

I joined because its a great place to be.When I found this place I was going through a real hard time with my life and FTE helped me forget about it when I was here.I lurked in the background just reading and not posting for a long time and learned alot about my trucks, but then I also learned alot about some of the people here and have never found another site like it.Total strangers that will go the extra mile to help someone they don't know and be so sincere about it.I spend most of my time hanging out here in the general non auto forum anymore but I am still a motorhead and there is so much info on here I can just read for hrs at a time. Now I am just addicted if I can't get on here a couple times a day I get the shakes.Oh and by the way I never got a bumper sticker

Way back when Ken was running the email group and the website from home, (and working a day job full time), he mentioned something about a small fee. I think it really burned him, because he felt strongly that the site should be free. I emailed him to find out where to send the cash. He would not take it. I didn't keep that response, but I remember laughing so hard about the guy that wouldn't take my money for this awesome resource. He was working almost 24/7, building the site and servers - plus the day job. Almost drove him insane. (Peggy is low key on the site, but is supporter, #1). Takes a lot of money to do this, even with the 486 server I think he started with, so he made some changes. He quit his day job. But even living on a shoe string he helped out members in trouble, (you're still a member, whether you pay to be a supporter or not).

I think it still might make him a little mad that there's a voluntery fee. If you notice, he never really asks for the money - most supporters do that for him. It's not a lot of money, (I'm sure you can't live off supporter fees...), but he can use cash to buy new toys and make the site work better. That's why I do it, the site is into non-stop growth. Back when it was just the email group, it was a challenge sometimes for him to get emails out to a few hundred folks like me. Now the site can have a few thousand active people, clicking through threads and be faster than some forum that might have a half dozen surfing at any one time.

But wait folks! There's more! For one low fee you get a T-shirt and bumper sticker! (Of course, you have to send persistent reminders to get the bumper sticker - but hey, he doesn't like that fee, remember?)

Back in 2001 before I became a Moderator Then an Administrator in 2002.

I felt it was the right thing to do.... even though I was trying to help people instead of being helped.

It is my belief that "one only gets out of something the amount they put into it"

When I first became a ClubFTE member in Feb 2002 it was $20/yr and it included more things.
Until Ken invested more... then the $16.00 was a better value.

The story of how my memebership got paid is testament to what FTE meant to me.

There was a discussion about continuing the ClubFTE because it cost more to operate than it took in.

The premise that $16.00 /yr is far less than the $125.00 hr that people would pay a Ford Dealership for chance for them to try and figure out what was wrong was a Great reason to become a ClubFTE member.
It is a chance to give back to the site what took for free and saved them hundreds if not thousands of repair costs.

IMO, For the people that think it isn't worth it to pay $16.00/year, they must never get out of the General Conversation forum and into the tech forums.

Here's a difference :
Yesterday I got the bill for installing my awning. They billed me 3 man hours @ $35.00/hr over what it actually took to do it.

That's $135.00 for doing nothing or for something that didn't apply to the job.

$16.00 a year for what FTE provides is chump change.

Actually the original question IS, "why do you not support".

Silly boy.

It's super cool to see all the supporters sharing their reasons why. Only about 3 replying non members though.

Darn. Maybe they're all busy purchasing their memberships AS WE SPEAK!!

a girl can dream....

well we are on SLOW dial up at my house, and i couldn't figure out why my signature wouldn't show up til i read that you had to join (good incentive) to see it. I started reading through what you actually get when you join and the fact that the ads on the side go away allowing for faster page load times had me sold. Plus my boyfriend assured me the advice was priceless. He wasn't lying. I can see the money issue though, i could only afford to get one year. But now i'm addicted!!!
