My rear break line (the metal one) that runs down the drivers side to the back sprung a leak over the weekend. It was leaking really bad and i was getting no pressure. So I found were it was leaking and pinched the line ahead of it and only used my front brakes. So i need to get a new break line now.
Autozone.com asks what size; 3/16", 1/4", 5/16" or 3/8"? And also asks for the length; 20", 60", 40", 8", 12", 30" or 51"? I'm not sure which one it is. I've never switched a break line before. And are these easy to replace?
Cut off a piece of line and bring it with you to the store if you want...I don't know of the exact size...probably 3/16" or 1/4".
You'll have to measure the length and determine what you need.
You need a tube bender and flaring tool...which you can get at autozone for cheap (mgiht be able to rent them too). You need to flare the end of the tube after putting a fitting on.
Don't forget to bleed the entire system when you're done. Bleed it at the farthest point from the master cylinder first...closest last.
It is all 3/16 tubing. You can flare your own as mentioned, but an easy way is to buy 2 pieces of the right length (one 60" and whatever the other needs to be). Get a union fitting and you are all set and don't need to buy a flaring tool or worry about a bad flare/leak. BTW, I would replace all the lines if you had one blowout. They seem to go together since they all see the same weather.
