Does anyone know if I can just unbolt my rag joint, pop my steering wheel off, and pull my steering shaft right out to relace the upper and lower bearings? It looks pretty easy, but looks can sometimes be deceiving. If there is anyone out there that has done this project before? If so, would you please inform me of anything I should be aware of before I start ripping her apart. Thank you.
i am not sure about your vehicle as you didn't say what it is, but on most fords the answer would be no as the whole column must be removed as the shaft comes out the bottom. hawkrod
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Sep-02 AT 09:21 PM (EST)]Yeah, I guess that information would probably come in pretty handy. DOOH!!! I have a 65 F100 custom cab w/manual steering. 352 w/C6 (shifter on column). Thank you, Jay.
I took mine all apart with no problems. No special tools needed. Speaking of columns, I need to replace the shaft inside mine because of worn splines on the bottom end. Anyone know where I can find one? How about a complete column? What other years will fit? Mine is a 1966 F100 4x4 4 speed.
