Steering column bearings... NumberDummy?

Hello all,

I pulled the steering column out of my 1966 F100 4x4 tonight and realized it could really use new bearings before I reinstall it after the new firewall cover is in place.

Does anyone happen to have the part numbers for the upper and lower steering column bearings in my truck? I know they are different part numbers...

Cheers,
Dion

Thanks Bill.

Everything makes sense except the lower bearing sleeve... I didn't see on my column when I pulled it apart last night. I definitely noticed that the upper and lower bearings weren't the same, and that the upper bearing had a sleeve that fits on the shaft and down into the bearing... but I didn't see the same sort of thing on the lower bearing.

I'm going to try and snap a picture of it this afternoon and will post again later so that I'm sure of what I have.

Cheers,
Dion

Bill,

This is what I have on the bottom of my steering column shaft:

The bearing definitely was sitting on it... so is this the correct bearing sleeve, part #C6TZ3518A? If so, I'll just reuse it... if not, then I'm not really sure what it would look like.

Cheers,
Dion

The upper sleeve is nylon. The catalog does not list what material the lower sleeve is, but as I recall, it's rubber....for a very good reason.

The upper sleeve nestles inside the bearing. The lower sleeve is stretched over the outside of the bearing.

The sleeve/bearing is then inserted into the lower section of the mast jacket (steering column cover).

F23Z3517B .. Lower Bearing: 1 3/16' O.D. / 3/4" I.D. / 9/32" thick.

C6TZ3518A .. Lower Bearing Sleeve: No O.D. listed / 1.04" I.D. / .468" thick.

The parts catalog exploded view of the entire column would be a big help describing how all this jazz fits together.

That makes a bunch more sense Bill... thanks! I still have that rubber piece that stretches over the bottom bearing... I actually thought it was just part of the bottom bearing.

I did buy one of those Parts Manuals today... so hopefully I can start looking this stuff on my own!

Cheers,
Dion
