6 speed noise?
Clutch pedal has been hard to push in for a while now but with new clutch and throughout that went in last winter i thought that it would just be this way. Checked level of master cylinder and diaghram was way oversized and had trouble getting it to fit back in master cylinder, kind of like it got real hot and swelled. By the way the only way i could get the diaphram shrunk enough to get it back in the master cylinder was to stick it in the freezer for an hour and even then it barely came back down to oe size!
So- let truck cool down for an hour and started it back up with no noise! Goes into gear fine and none of the above symptoms. I know this is going to happen again. Can anyone narrow this down. Will the tranny make that noise if the slave is not operating properly. Also, new slave master pre bled unit went in with the clutch troughout replacement! Im dealing with six month old parts. If it was an input shaft bearing it would make the noise all the time ,right? Truck is not chipped and new clutch/throughout is napa brand.
) the engine is trying to hold the speed while still in gear, which puts extra load on the engine and for some reason it makes a grinding noise.
That pretty much narrows it down to a transmission bearing.
Yeah, I know I said the same thing twice.
Trying to get my point across.
FWIW, I share your pain. On my last trip out, I noticed a new rattle coming from the shift handle when in overdrive about halfway through the trip. When I got home, I could hear the unmistakable growl of a failed bearing. I hurried up and changed the fluid in the transmission, even though I knew it would be too little, too late and it came out all "mother-of-pearl" looking. Like it had very fine metal shavings suspended in the oil.
So I am not very happy with my transmission right now. I thought they were bulletproof.
That was the whole reason that I chose a six speed over an automatic.
Gonna drive it till it won't go anymore and then drop a rebuilt in.
We'll heres what i did. I changed the slave/ master again with another pre-bled unit. I also hooked back up that big return spring that i removed about six months ago. Everything feels real good again and my petal returns to the top like it should. I cant get over how much less effort it takes to push in the clutch with that spring hooked up and with the new hydrualic system. I thought it would be the other way around. I wish it would have been like this for the past six months. Oh well
As far as the noise goes it has dissappeared. I just got back from a two hour round trip today and no noise. Im thinking that it was the slave not returning back to its position when off the pedal and the throughout was rubbing to the point it was half engaged / dissengaged which explains the truck wanting to move as i was moving the shifter in the directiion the gear i was getting ready to go into,( Without the pedal being pressed in). I hope i dont confuse you! But any way if it was a bearing im thinking it would do it all the time no matter if it was hot or cold. We'll see over time.
As far as my throughout taking a beating the day it made the noise it hasnt suffered any permanent damage as it is easier to push the pedal in now than the firsat day i got the truck, 2years ago. I'm thinking that 6 months ago when i took the return spring off as i was putting on the 2nd hydrualic system the pedal wasnt making a full return to the top of its stroke therefore the through all this time has always had constant tension on it.
For now my plan is no noise , so im not tearing the tranny out. Pedal feels super good so that also helps in my decision. the trannny oil also looks good , no shavings. I'll keep you posted.
