I have a 1990 F-350 Frame shrotened for 6 foot bed. There is no rust on the frame or very little, I have everything off the frame that will come off, and I am abouyt to sandblast. I was trying to get it hot dipped-galvanized but no one will do it. What will work best
it might prove to be hard to find someone with a big enough oven to do a frame, but a good multi layer paint job will do good. lots of rust inhibiting primer, paint, then a good sealer.
ive seen it done too, i used to live in elkhart IN where the majority of campers come from, and they have ovens big enogh to do it because of doing trailer frames, but finding one if your not in a metropolis of industry can be hard.
Yes the magic of tv. They can also rebuild a car in 1 hour. A saw a post some time ago and this person knew of a company that would galvanize his frame. I think he discovered the service existed after he had already done the frame.
How about POR-15? ive seen it used on tv and the equipment renter down the street, they say it works wonders. The only down side i see is its not the cheapest thing to buy, its like 2500 for a 55-gal drum (I dont know the price on a quart, gallon. etc cause i havent looked it up for a few months and the price on 55-gal stuck in my head). I plan on using it on my '89 F-350.
I've been checking into POR-15 it sounds pretty good but it does not have UV protection. The galvanizing Idea is good but I've talked to every galvanizing place wit ha big enough tank in about 10 different states and none will do vehicle frames unless there fabricated frames. I was thinking of useing something like ryst bullet or miracle and putting on like threee coats and then having the frame sprayed with bedliner? oh yeah POR-15 is $117. a gallon from them

Spray with Rust Bullet and then top coat with a color of your choice BEFORE the rust bullet dries hard. Very little prep work for Rust bullet - just remove large scaly rust chunks, wipe off the dust and grease with a wax and grease remover. Rust Bullet cures so hard you have to grind it off things that you do not want it on. Plus it is resistant to UV light, unlike POR 15. Rust Bullet only comes in a silver color (I used the automotive version) so if you want the frame a different color you need to top coat. You need to top coat BEFORE the rust bullet cures or the topcoat paint will NOT stick. I sprayed topcoat on when rust bullet was still tacky - you will not scratch the topcoat off. I used Chassis Black paint from Napa as my topcoat. Good luck!
You might want to take a look at the frame I just finished for my sons Unibody here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...1%21%21-a.htmlI had it sandblasted then I primed it with an epoxy primer. Used a product called "Body-Shutz" by 3-M, it's a undercoating that can be painted. I used it on the inside of the frame, then painted the whole frame with "hardend" acrilic paint. I have used this system on many hot-rods I've built over the years, and have never had a problem with rust or paint flaking off.
If you like going that nuts on a piece of steel you may want to look into rust bullet. It makes epoxy primer seem non existant...If you scratch RB rust won't travel under the area around the scratch. reg primers don't come close..
