I don't know how much difference there is between a 76 and a 72 frame, but a friend of mine has a 48 F-1 mounted on a 72 F-250 frame. He's running the 360 engine and C6 and pulls a travel trailer with it. If it will fit on an F-250 frame I would think it would fit an F-100 frame ever better. He bought the truck that way so he doesn't know much about the actual installation, but it doesn't look bad. The biggest problem he has faced is in finding decent looking 8-lug wheels for it. I have a couple of pictures of it I could send you if you want to see it. Unless you have a pretty good background in fabrication and welding, I would stick to the basic subframe and rear end swap instead of a full frame...
Watson, You going the right way by upgrading to a later frame,I think. I have built several 48-52 trucks along with earlier models. And I use late model stuff. My reason is besides they ride better,I drive mine,And I dont mean just to the store or car show. Lots of miles every year. Your not havin fun with it,if its parked in the garage. Besides if you brake down miles away from home its a lot easiler and your mostlikely have a better chance on getin parts. If you go into the parts house saying you need parts for a later model running gear, then a 48-52. I own a 50 F-5 that is orginal, but it was in great shape when I got it, But I also have a 40 ford 1/2 ton using a ranger running gear (351W), my 51 has a 84 3/4 ton 351W running gear. And my pride & joy is my 1952 mercury 1-ton dually p.u. with 1998 running gear 460 EFI 5 speed. Its a big truck 22ft. long bumper to bumper. Not to may dually pickups around its got a 8 ft bed. Besides being a full size 4-door truck, not a ex-tended cab.
