installing EFI
Cheapest way would be to mount the heads and EFI setup from a later model EFI 302. Worse is the engine controller - which you need to set up for your vehicle and driving habits. If you use a stock one from another vehicle you are stuck with the pollution controls that were on that vehicle.
It is possible to fool the computer and run without the pollution controls, but that may cause you to use even more gas or limit your power. You can buy a controller and set it up yourself, but that requires some computer skills. Cheapest and best is the MegaSquirt controller, which lets you do your own programming.
I am doing this with a 300 six - you may find the information I put up on my website helpful. www.old-fords.com.
It is a major project that may not be worthwhile. It depends on how you use your truck. For wide open full throttle operation efi will not give you any more power than a good carb setup. EFI is best for normal driving, giving a better, smoother running engine and as much as 1/3 to 1/2 again the fuel driving.
Dueller, what year engine did you use? is it Mass air or speed density? Did you bypass your EGR or is it still hooked up? do you have the air tubes still going to the back of the head? also, what did you do about a purge canister?
I used a 93 mustang 5.0, and used the complete harness out of it. Took out stuff that wasnt used. There is a small 10 page booklet from Ford Motorsport about wiring in their "street rod" harness that they sell that was pretty helpful. I also bought mustang wiring diagrams from Helm Publishing.
The wiring was pretty involved but i think well worth it. very good drivability so far.

I used a 5.0L with it's mated AOD from an '86 Lincoln MkV11 but the '93 Mustang is a beter choice.
I did most of it myself and I'm no learned mechanic so most of you on here can do it, but I had someone come over for a day to do the final electrical details to get it running. It's the 3rd summer and I've been happy with it. Wouldn't want to pay more for gas though!
The AOD helps with the fuel economy as well.
If you've got a late model 302 block, then go to the wreckers and steel EVERYthing from a Mustang or similar Ford 5.0L. Make sur eyou get all the sensors etc. there is a FordFuelInection site that I guy in Michigan has on the web that I found extremely useful. Google it
