Are all tailgates created equal?

I hope I’m not being redundant with questions posted in the past. While I’m shopping for parts I see a huge disparity in prices. I’m definitely going to need a tailgate and I’m seeing prices that vary as much as $100 from vendor to vendor for an original style steel tailgate. I’m hoping to be able to salvage the box from the bed but the differences in price for those is even more significant. Prices range from 1200 for a complete bed (2 sides and a front) to 900 for one side panel. I don’t want to name names for fear of offending any of the vendor/sponsors but does the adage hold true that you get what you pay for in this case?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Ask the companies what gauge steel they are using would be where I would start.

I checked out your gallery, great looking truck! I wish my tailgate was as good as yours. Look on the bright side, it appears that your truck ahs the 50 1/2 and up bed on it with the flat bedsides and square stake pockets. I have the earlier version with the raised bedsides and rounded pockets....the price for those parts is alot higher.

I think Christopher has the right idea here, contact the manufacturers and see what they are made of.

Good luck with it
Bobby
