My driver's side second row door is having a problem closing. This started about a month ago. Until yesterday, after a try or two the door would close. Sometimes it just bounces back at me. Yesterday, I could not get it to close at all. Luckily, today I got the door to close but I am afraid to reopen (might not close again). I'm going to take the door panel off tonight and take a look. Has anyone else has this problem? Any thing in particular to look for inside the door?
I would buy a new latching mechanism before opening up the door. That way if you need to replace it you will be able to do so and close / secure the door.
In removing the panel there are 2 screws. On under the door light at the bottom rear and one undere the power window switch panel. The power window switch panel just has pressure clips holding it on. After removing the 2 screws the panel must be slid UP don't pull it or pry it because you will break the tabs that hold it on. Also the window must be up. You will have to pull the rubber plug to get to the 2 nuts that hold the handle on. After removing them you can release the green tab with a screw driver and then remove the handle. You will have to reach inside and remove the small latching device by rotating it down if I remember correctly to remove the door manual lock. There are 2 screws in the door handle that must come out. There are 3 torx screws that hold the latch in. After removing the 3 screws you can lift the latch up so you can remove the door lock actuator and door ajar wiring. Don't break the plug clips. Remove the latch with the push rod to the inside door handle with the latch. Then you can install a new one. It really isn't that difficult but go slowly on your first one so not to break any of the plastic stuff. Jim
Replaced. The latch would not catch. If I tapped it with a hammer, it would latch sometimes. Didn't want any more problems. $60 + tax at the dealership.
