I'm probably going to sound completely out of my league...

268 I guess is a slightly lopey cam. I ran a 292 w/11:1 compression. Lets just say for a 390, that 750 came in handy.

The 268 is probably going to be exactly what you asked for

As Krewat said, most people will say that the 750 is too large. I have a fairly standard build on my 390. It's .060 over with flattop pistons, D2 heads ported and polished, steel shim head gaskets (about 10 to 1 compression). I'm running a compcam 33-238-4. I've got a performer RPM intake and headers. I ran 4 different carbs on it before I finally was happy. I tried a Holley 600, a Holley 750, an Edelbrock 600 and an Edelbrock 750. I ended up with the Edelbrock 750. I felt that the Holley 750 was too much. I'm certainly no specialist on this...actually if you run the calcs I believe most people are fine with the smaller carb. In fact, low end response should be better with the smaller carb. I just felt that my engine was being held back after about 5000 rpm. For an everday driver that should not be an issue however I built my truck for fun and when I drive it I tend to drive it hard .
