Yes you have the right idea. A cat delete pipe would just be a straight pipe that would replace your cat. And a muffler delete would also be a straight pipe. The nice thing is you can add your cat or muffler at anytime by just removing your delete pipe. I do not know what MBRP stands for so im also in the dark on that one. lol. About emissions. I do not know what other states do for emissions but here in NY you can get away with straight pipes on emission. Only if its a diesel truck. Cars will set off codes and then when they plug into your computer and DMV sees that you have a check engine light on or you have emission issues you will not pass. But on trucks they dont hook u up to the computers so you can get away with it. Im quessing here in NY they will be checking diesels pretty soon. Hope that helped
Im in Kitsap county washington and this county doesnt do emissions either.. witch is cool.. but when i move to my new duty station in a few years i dont know where ill be so i dont know what the laws there will be like?? anyway.. i think i might go with the CAT delete pipe (as per thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=511516) not sure if ill to the muf-delete pipe yet your not.... one thing at a time right ...... and thanks for the info guys.. trying to learn as i go...

where can you even get a test pipe for your stock system? or a muffler delete pipe for a stock system. Ive never come across them. I might have to make one. lol
Probably cheaper to make one but AFE does make one and any of the sponsors can get them for you. MARK AT DPPI says they are getting some in soon but they have been selling like hotcakes and AFE is backordered.

could you just use the mbrp one that they use on catbacks. Wouldnt it be almost the same fitment or not?
No the MBRP is designed to work ONLY with their system, the AFE one will work on the stock down pipe or their down pipe as it has the same flange style as the Ford system.
Hey Mark,
I am interested in your MBRP aluminized exhaust for my 03 6.0. I pull a 5th wheel trailer and would like to to have an exhaust installed to assist in lowering EGT's while towing. To accomplish this, would a turbo back exhaust or cat-back exhaust work best?
Thanks

Dont mean to hijack your quesstion but 1 thing you should make sure about is wether or not the exhaust will clear your 5th wheel rails under ur truck. I installed a gooseneck the other day on my new 06 and my stock exhaust was tight as hell on it and i had to lower the rear exhaust hanger to make it clear. Just a thought. Thats one reason im not sure if i wanna get a aftermarket exhaust. Idk if it will fit.
Turbo back will ALWAYS be the best choice as it has a larger diameter, is mandrel bent and flows more so it'll drop EGT's the most!! As far as the hitch it shouldn't be an issue except on 4 inch duals and then the only hitch we have seen that causes clearance issues is the B&W drop ball model. The MBRP and AFE systems we sell are much flatter where they go over the axle, it helps with flow and CFM rates to have less sharp bends. Never have figured out why Ford has the bend over the axle so high and sharp, there is no way the suspension will ever hit it as there isn't that much travel to begin with but it's how they do it??? Call us if you have any questions we'll be glad to help you.
Just a quick question..... Will removing the muffler only cause any problems when it comes time to have warranty work done? I have an 04 PSD CC Fx4 and purchased the extended warranty. I don't want to remove the muffler and have the dealership give me any grief over it. What do you guys think? Anyone had any problems in the past?

i gutted my old one and they never even knew when i took it in. Just have a garage make u a muffler delete pipe and keep ur stock muffler with the piping from the joint right ahead of it. and change it when u go in for work
I just had my MDRP installed today. Single exit. I do have the B&W drop ball in mine. I didn't have any fitment problems. I do still have the muffler and Cat in mine but I do love the sound over stock.
