sticking starter

My 87 with 5.0 had a starter (new)put onit in january now it is starting to stay engaged and whine what is the deal??

did they put a new soleniod in the truck bucause when a starter stays engaged its usually a sticking soleniod

I've been there...and it was a bad solenoid. Luckily, it's a cheap part.

Ya I put new solenoid in still does the same thing,grinds when trying to turn over and starter stays engaged,shut it off try again sometimes ok

also I have the starter out and there is no clip to stop gear from going past groove in shaft is this a problem???

im new hear i dont know if you fixed the problem but i have a 1988 ford f150 with the same problem and the problem was the wire to the solenoid was to thin so i went with a 4gauge wire from the battery to the solenoid and i also put a heavy duty solenoid from orielly's auto parts

Problem solved I dug up one of my old starters and it had the clip so I put in on and it works great gear was going out to far thanx for all the input
