stuck distributor

78 f350 w/ 351m c6, im starting to get the hint, that my timing is off, sometimes, it will diesel, and not start cold at all, and theres others but i cant remember them now, but anyway i loosened the 9/16 bolt that holds the distributor down, and went to advance it a hare, and it wouldnt move period. i cleaned the dirt out around it, and tapped on the base with a hamer, and nothing, so i soaked the area with liquid wrench, andits been sitting in the puddle for 3 days now and i go tap on it every once in a while, and earlier i went to see if it would crack and its still stuck as bad, i was wondering how the hell am i gona move this thing any help will do

I don't think I can help, but the same thing happened on my 77 F250 with a 400. Basically the same engine. I wonder how many others have had the same problem.

I've had a couple of Ford dizzy's do this to me. A 400 and a 300 I-6. I sold the pickup with the 400 the way it was. And the 6 cyl is still has the distributor in it, even after trying to beat it loose with a 4 lb sledge. Ended up using another dist when I swapped engines.

Cast aluminum and cast iron don't like each other. Nothing unusual to have this happen, and there is no easy solution to fix it that I know of. I never had one stick to the point it never came out, but I've had a few that I just had to keep working at until I could pry or turn it loose.

Patience Please

Just keep putting the penetrating fluid to it.

Don't just stick with the Blaster.
Try others except WD-40.

Amway makes a product called Wonder Mist, if you can latch onto some of that it would help.

This may a take a week or so off 10-12 times daily of spraying that area.

You can try tapping the Vacuum advance as well to see of it will loosen it.

Once you get it loose, apply some anti-sieze lube liberally then re-install the dizzy

Check the vacuum advance for it being seized and the diaphram inside it for being dried out and leaking.
Best yet is to just replace it

remember...patience

Try some "PB's Fabulous BLASTER"

I've recently had to give my 400m engine a tune-up and had to replace my distributor. I sprayed the crap out of it (old one) with PB Penetrating CATALYST on and let it sit for a day then I tapped it lightly with a hammer and with a little aggressive twist (with gloves on) the unit broke loose and I almost creamed my shorts.

$8 dollares a can but well worth it.
good luck!

ooof, I don't know what mapp gas torch is but all I can say is that heat and aluminum are eachother worst enemies. distributor would expend in the hole or worst yet the aluminum would melt if not careful. Be patient!

The heat would have to be directed on the cast around the dizzy hole to do any good whatsoever.

Heating aluminium would only expand it... where it needs to be smaller than the cast iron hole.
Just keeping spraying penetrating fluid & tapping on the it with a rubber or wooden mallet.

30w Won't do anything... you need a penetrating fluid to get in the crevice & eat up the corrosion that the aluminium to cast iron makes.

Coca Cola would work better than 30w oil.

Take the vacuum advance off, and use a cloth strap type filter wrench on it. If and when you get it out, put some anti-sieze goop on it.
