I got two other trucks so not too worried...I used the 30w just so if anything fell in it wouldnt be too bad..Plus PB Blaster didnt work..I was gonna use some stuff similar to Liquid Plumber...But I gotta get the hose ready for rinsing....
Why do you say "except WD40"? (just curious)
Thanks
WD 40 is not a penetrating oil, it is a lubricating oil. also, the "WD" stands for water displacing, and 40 is the 40'th mix they made that worked.
i had the same problem of a stuck distributor on a 289 in my 65 falcon that sat for 20 years, with the plug wires 1 space advanced.. i tried for 3 weeks to get the dang thing to move, soaking 4-5 times a day with pb blaster. finally when i took the intake off to replace the leaking front gasket, i used an oxy-acetylene torch to heat up the front of the block all around the distributor hole, and a pipe wrench on the distributor shaft to twist it. it took over 30 minutes to get it out, and that was getting the block VERY HOT, and breaking the distributor housing. but that engine did run for another 8 years before a head gasket let loose.
Because in the REAL world of penetrating fluid, WD-40 is crap !
Ok Thanks for the info.
Btw,Using all the text in the post to quote a couple of words is waste.
It's just my opinion. I think there is way too much wrong usage of the quote feature [/QUOTE]
Ok, got it. Better?
Take the vacuum advance off, and use a cloth strap type filter wrench on it. If and when you get it out, put some anti-sieze goop on it.
Becareful here, I tried this and I ended up beaking the housing at the weak points of the distributor. I applied to much force and unfortunately for me, I lost my $20 core return because I broke it where the vacuum advance is tied down with the 2 screws.
Besiedes, I that you only wanted to rotate the unit for better timming.
I have had good luck with a product called Breakfree. It's freed up rusted solid and corroded parts for me in the past. Most gun stores have it and many sporting goods places too.
To get mine out I used a 3 foot pipe wrench and snapped the dizzy in half. I was overhaulin the engine anyway and didnt care but thats how hard it was stuck in there.
