Just joined the group, I have a 1961 f-250 4wd with a stock 390ci, backed by the original 4 spd trans and running gear.
I have posted a photo gallery and look forward to all the great info I see here,
:-)

Hey, I just joined too and I'm having a blast. This is the neatest thing I've found yet. I checked out your truck, and I think it's pretty slick. Who cares if the 390 is stock or not, FE is the only way to go on the older trucks. I've owned several FE motor trucks and they were all tough and fun to drive. I have a 65 F100 with 352, headers, edelbrock intake and 4-barrell, and a three on the tree. Right now it's my daily driver, as I am putting floor pans in my 83 F250 4WD Diesel that's on 36's. Anyway, I really like your truck a lot and I hope to get pictures of all of mine posted soon so you can all check them out.

Charles, I care, I'm an ol hard head, try to help the new guys when I can, but I want your claims to be correct. It doesn't help Richs crediability to say in a crowd of blue oval owners "hey guys I got a stock 390 in my 61". The word (stock) is the issue. Saying I have a 390 in my truck isnt. 99% of all FE equiped trucks were 352s & 360s, dang few 390s ever from the factory, no S series ever in trucks.

I just want to be able to believe you when you describe your truck. We have to put up with too much nonsense from bow tie owners to have to listen to it from family.

One more than one occasion, we have opened up a 360 on its first rebuild to discover it is really a "390" the telltale is the different Rod lenght. I talked to a Ford engineer some 20 years ago and he said that in the FE Engine plant, the 390 was more common than the 360 and when there were shortages of either rods or cranks (360) that they just made them 390's. The Eninge decals still said 360 and did the production broadcast.

In 1966 also, Ford made 12 "W" code F100. That W was for 427. Seems someone had "Lightning" thoughts a long time ago. Too bad they never went into production.

David, a lot of 390s have been swapped into trucks over the years from cars. They would have standard pistons and cranks on first rebuild. But there is one thing that we can agree on, since the FE was introduced in to the truck in 1965, there were no 61s with a stock 390. OK?

I'd have to agree with John on this one.
61-64 all had y-blocks if 8 cylinders were asked for.
